Everytime I boot into Knoppix 3.8.1 several Icons show up on my desktop. They are partitions for OSs that I have installed on this computer. I don't want them to appear on my desktop. If I need to access one of them, I know how to mount, etc. If I delete them, they still show up at the next boot up.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, jimbo

Good thought but no cigar. The icons still show up when I boot. I delete all unwanted icons, but when I boot again, there they are.

Heeeelp.

Thanks, jimbo

I've got the same deal with a trash can icon. It's not a "real" trash can, it just looks like one. I put it in the real trashcan and it comes back when I reboot.

Control center-> Desktop -> Behavior-> Uncheck Show icons on desktop-> Apply - sorry, but this works for me, I did it to find out if it works. I reboot and icons are not on desktop any more.

Assuming these are hdinstalls: sudo chmod 0 /usr/bin/mkdesktophdicons

Well, you could try Control Center -> KDE Components -> Sessions Manager -> Start with an empty session
Also have a look if there's something creating icons in ~/.kde/Autostart/

Dear Markus,
it is better now. The only thing that is left is a trash can icon. It's not a "real" trash can, it just looks like one. I put it in the real trashcan and it comes back when I restard kde...

B. R.
P.S. No the ~/.kde/Autostart/ is not the problem because all kde sessions on all users have this nasty "trash can" fake icon...

Sorry, but I can't really figure out the trash can without a knoppix install. Wiped the last one away when I needed the partition.

Well, it is not that I want NO desktop icons., I just don't want these partition icons that keep showing up.

Adding "exit 0" as the first line of /usr/bin/mkdesktophdicons worked. Thanks for the help.

I miss read the post in this thread about mkdesktophdicons and I thought is was going to get rid of all desktop icons, not just stop generating those hd partition icons.

Thanks again, jimbo
