I thought that subject line might get you die hard Linux hacks in here to complain that NO Linux software is equivalent to windows- IT'S BETTER!! I agree completely. Anyway, if you're accustomed to windows and want to know what Linux proggies can get that same job done only better you might go here:http://linuxshop.ru/linuxbegin/win-lin-soft-en/

edit forgot how to spell euivalents! :D

I've also found that with every new release of wine, windows programs are running much better under linux natively. Sure it's not 100% but it's getting better. I wish Klaus would update WINE to the current release though.

For a nice site to see what programs run well under WINE check out: http://frankscorner.org/

Would you believe that I STILL haven't even tried WINE? Too many other things going on. Besides- Linux hates my video card for 3D-gotta get a new one.

It's much easier than you would imagine.

In Knoppix all you need to do is click on the K menu, and click on the wine icon.

A little wizard will walk you through your configuration. You can stick with the defaults (you can always run the wizard again to edit things).

Then you download a windows program (or use programs from your windows partition) and cd into the directory with the program (or specify it's locatation) and type this: "wine program.exe"

It won't run everthing, but it's getting better and better. It really is quite easy.

It's actualy even easier than that. Assuming you use KDE, you just right click on the executable and click wine in the menu that pops up. At least that's true with knoppix. i assume it's a standard KDE thing.
