Newbie with questions

I am curretly running XP PRO, and despretly wanting Linux. For Knoppix, my friend told me that it can completly wipe the comp, so i have my full harddrive dedicated to Linux, but, he said I have to partition it properly. What does he mean by that, how would you partition it properly??

First, if every newbie creates a new post with the subject line"Newbie with questions" then we would have tons of useless non-descriptive subject lines. These useless subjects would not only foul up the search engine but ultimately make the forums less helpful for newbies. A better subject line would be "HD install and partition" or "partition a hard drive to install knoppix". In the future please READ FIRST. Search second. Then if necessary post a detailed question so that we can help you.
