I've tried working with Knoppix but unfortunately I can't.

How would i got about getting off my hard disk?

Also, how can i register it back with windows? (i had a multi-boot)

boot with knoppix. In knoppix open a konsole command line window. Use the command:
sudo cfdisk

Then delete the Linux partition. Write the changes. Type yes when it asks for it. Then quit.

To remove the linux bootloader and put the windows bootloader back on the PC, see this http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=292614&view=getlastpost.

Thanks, I got the windows bootloader back.. BUT..

I tried installing Knoppix on a different drive (D lets just say) and windows lost it and i cant format it in windows, Knoppix, or "dos" (aka, Recovery console)

I tried in KnoopixCD: cfdisk hdb2 (in the root console) and it said that there was no such drive (although i could access it via desktop icon)

Any ideas?

a different drive (D lets just say)
I don't know what has happened in your system or exactly what you'll have to do to fix it. Personally I would take a look at the system with a third party partition parogram like Ranish Partition Manager (http://www.ranish.com/part/), it helps me a lot when windows gets crazy ideas that it can't format a disk or some such thing.

But the reason I posted and quoted the line above is that it's going to be very important for you to understand the dinstinction between a drive and a partition. D is not a different drive. It is a partiton. You may have one partition on your first drive, called C, and in such a case a new D partition might be on a different drive, but the drive is not the partition, and any confusion between the two concepts is likely to get you into a lot of trouble. This is true even where there is only one partition per drive.

D is not a different drive. It is a partiton

I have 2 HDD. One big one (windows) and one smaller one (Knoppix, or what was to be). Before i installed Knoppix, Windows could see the second drive (which was partitioned at one time) and when i went back, windows lost em. Now, nothing cant see that drive. Not even Knoppix LiveCD. Well, i can access it from the icon on my HDI (Hard Disk Installed) Knoppix. But thats about it.

Basiclly i'm trying to say is that I/windows lost that drive in the process of installing Knoppix and i wanted to to know if it could be fixed.

Would taking it drive out help at all? the way it seems, i dont think it will. At this point i'll do anything.

Edit: I really just need to format the second one clean so i can install Knoppix again (just 'cause you never know)

I tried in KnoopixCD: cfdisk hdb2 (in the root console) and it said that there was no such drive (although i could access it via desktop icon)
That'd be "cfdisk /dev/hdb", I guess.

Jyn,
Boot knoppix & Load up this thread in knoppix then copy & paste each these commands into command line window:

dmesg > hardware.txt
lsmod >> hardware.txt
lspci -v >> hardware.txt
fdisk -l /dev/hda >> hardware.txt
fdisk -l /dev/hdb >> hardware.txt
fdisk -l /dev/hdc >> hardware.txt
fdisk -l /dev/hdd >> hardware.txt
kate hardware.txt

Then copy & paste the text into this thread.

Just FYI, Windows (at least NT/2000/XP) will not see a drive/partition formatted in a file system it can't read in Explorer or My Computer. You need to access it in Disk Administrator to format it and assign it a drive letter. That's in Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management in Win 2000. Pretty much the same in Windows 9x (95/98/ME), but you need to use FDISK in a DOS prompt to make it usable by Windows. If you format it reiserfs or ext3 (which is what happens when you install Knoppix), the partition pretty much disappears

Knoppix is finding a Seagate drive (hda) connected as the Master on the Primary IDE chain. It also finds a Western Digital drive (hdb) as the slave on the Primary IDE channel.

hda: ST3120022A, ATA DISK drive
hdb: WDC WD200EB-00BHF0, ATA DISK drive
hda: max request size: 1024KiB
hda: 234441648 sectors (120034 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=16383/255/63
hda: cache flushes supported
hda: hda1
hdb: max request size: 128KiB
hdb: 39102336 sectors (20020 MB) w/2048KiB Cache, CHS=38792/16/63
hdb: cache flushes not supported
hdb: hdb1 hdb2

stuart b is right. You have to go to the administrative tools -> Computer Management then Disk Management to repartition & format the drive.

Hi, why don't use Qtparted?
In Knoppix find it in system-->QTparted.
It has a nice GUI.
If Knoppix sees /dev/hda and /dev/hdb as well, it must be possible using cfdisk or QTparted.
