Knoppix and an existing Linux drive?

Hi:

I have 2 hard drives, one with XP, the other with Redhat Linux 9.

The Linux drive only boots in command line mode (no gui).

When I boot using the Knoppix CD, what is happening? I see both
the XP and Linux drives on a beautifule gui but exactly what operating
system am I in?

If you boot from Knoppix Live CD, than you are in Knoppix OS.

As stated by tdjokic you are running Knoppix when you boot the Knoppix CD. More precisely, you see the KDE GUI of a Debain system (the distro Knoppix is based on). Knoppix can of course read the other partitions on the drive, so you can see your Windows and Red Hat partitions. Knoppix will not write to them by default, except that if there is a Linux swap partition on one of the drives it will use it. Knoppix can not write to NTFS partitions, but you can change from the default way that Knoppix mounts FAT and Linux partitions from read only to read / write if you want to be abe to write to the partitions.

What did you think you were running when you booted your Knoppix CD if not Knoppix?
