You may be confusing 2 types of bootloaders. First there is SYSLINUX http://syslinux.zytor.com/ and and it's sub-project ISOLINUX. It is a bootloader that is typically used to boot from CD. Then there is grub or the GRand Unified Bootloader which is typically used to boot from hard drive. Most live CDs used SYSLINU/ISOLINUX to boot from CD. I don't think syslinux is designed be a normal HD bootloader. I get the idea of what you want to do but in order to accomplish it you might have to do more work. It might just be easier to install grub to the mbr.

I hope this helps.

James [and everyone eles]-

i know the differences. syslinux is a boot loader that boots off of fat partitions. and isolinux is for cds like u said. i wanted to use syslinux 2 boot my computer but i find out that it is only for fat partitions [i have ntfs(]. now i`m thinking of tring 2 use the windows boot loader if i can. i don`t really like grub. lilo is an option but, i want to do it a little different. so i guess my new question is how do i boot knoppix of off a ntfs partition using "windows boot loader?????" i know that people have booted linux off of windows boot loader.

thanks
