Hi;

I am using Knoppix 3.2, build 4/15/2003

It comes with Mozilla 1.3

Mozilla locks up after attempting to type in a text field ( location bar, or file | open web location ).

I have had this happen consistently with both icewm and kde3

I find a workaround for this issue.

If I boot mozilla and type in the location bar( or file | open web location ) BEFORE I connect to the internet the problem does not occur.

I am filing a bug report with mozilla. For details about that and other comments please read my next post in this thread titled "submitted bug...."

I registered this issue as bug 202775 at:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org

I have found a temporary workaround, but by posting it here
(netscape.mozilla.user) I am hoping that someone may help me fix the problem or that I may confirm that the problem exists to others who encounter it.

If the Mozilla 1.3 browser is booted after an active internet connection is made the browser will lock if the user attempts to type in the location bar or the text field associated with file | open web location.

This bug does not happen if mozilla is booted first and the location bar is typed in BEFORE the internet connection is made.

Using the classic theme or the modern theme makes no difference to the problem.

Opening mozilla with a blank page versus a homepage does not make any difference.

Delselecting link prefetching makes no difference.

Platform stats:
----------------
- Mozilla 1.3
(Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030327 Debian/1.3-4)

- Knoppix GNU/Linux ( sub distro of Debian)
Version 3.2, 4/15/03 build

- wvdial 1.53 was used to connect to the internet

Hi;

It turns out that this is bug 198345 at
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org

The "find as you type" feature under Edit | Preferences | Advanced is messed up.
Disabling it also stops the problem I mentioned ( mozilla locking up )

HTH
