Trying to save some windows files in corrupt system with version 3.8.1 cd which has worked on numerous other systems. Does not boot and tried the following:
boot: knoppix acpi=off pnpbios=off noapic noapm - started to boot and then got Kernal Panic- not syncing attempted to kill init! and froze
boot: vga=0 debug -b 3 - got uncompressing linux ... ok booting the kernal - and then froze
I need to get it to boot with support for usb memory key to transfer files - any ideas?
Thanks.

Which kernel did you use those options with: knoppix or failsafe or both?

both - won't get past "kernal panic - not syncing, attempted to kill init!"

both - won't get past "kernal panic - not syncing, attempted to kill init!"
So you never get to the "stage one" shell prompt?

If you are getting the kernel panic even with failsafe, then my guess would be that there is some kind of issue with the CDR. Verify that the ISO you downloaded is good by using md5sum, and then burn a new CD, slowly (<8x).

Good luck and let us know how things go.
