http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/HdBasedHowTo

is outdated and incorrect for 3.2 version.

Anybody has a HDBasedhowto for 3.2 ?
Purpose is to boot from hd but on the same way as you boot from cd.
(mounting boot.img ...)

What parts of the howto don't work?

i have problems to boot from the iso too.
It took me some time to make knoppix boot from hd (using the
boot.img+lilo) and the hd is now booting. but then I'm thrown out
into the small recovery shell. reason seems to be that the kernel
does not find the image.

kernel is on /mnt/hda3/boot/
image is /mnt/hda3/image.iso

how can I tell the kernel to access the image?

cheers

I believe it should be /mnt/hda3/knoppix/image.iso it looks for the image in the /knoppix directory.

thanks for your fast reply :-)

no, unfortunately it's not the solution - the error-message changes
but it is still the same problem: knoppix does not find what it needs
'no file /knoppix/etc/ld.so.cache'

i have this feeling i have to edit miniroot.gz and to mount the iso there but
as i am a complete newbie i do not feel comfortable with that.

so, if anybody has a simple solution?

cheers

Try the method described in this thread (http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2273&highlight=) it should work for you.

problem is now solved:

i did use the cdrom iso-image which does not work.
you have to use the file knoppix (no extension, 690MB) in
the directory knoppix on the cdrom. this is what the
boot.img is looking for (either from floppy or with lilo
from hd).

 Could you please add some extra notes about this into the HowTo. I put up a note in the 'header' weeks ago, but feel free to add others.
