Is it possible to copy an ext3 partition saved with partimage on a reiserfs partition to get advantage of that filesystem?

I noticed Knoppix-installer (Knoppix 3.9) formats and installs on such a partition.
What to expect in terms of performances with reiserfs compared to ext3?

I'm almost positive that partimage is a blind copying program that copies not just the files, but the filesystem as well. The reason I think this is that it copies from the /dev level, which is low-level (read: binary)
You'd be better off just copying your entire tree over.
