Hi!

Does anyone have an idea on when KNOPPIX will start using X.org instead of XFree86?

I have a Dell Latitude D610 with a Intel 915GM that needs a very recent version of the i810 driver, available only in X.org. I would very much like to run KNOPPIX on this machine.

Then boot Knoppix in runlevel 2, install it, and apt-get xorg.

Well, I was a bit unspecific in my original post. We're building a custom distribution based on KNOPPIX, and we would like to be able to
support this kind of hardware, in addition to all the hardware KNOPPIX already supports.

Apt-getting xorg is quite a bit above the usability demands.

I've done some investigations on the matter. It is certainly possible to install X.org, but since the hardware detection of
KNOPPIX doesn't know anything about X.org, the card isn't found. It's better than the original, since at least this
server succeeds in starting a display with the fbdev driver.
