Hello,

I have no problems with sound using Knoppix 3.7 with Kernel 2.4 (and OSS). (The only limitation is no full
duplex, but that is a problem of the driver.)isapnp: Card 'Realtek Plug & Play Ethernet Card'. Here are some lines
from the "dmesg" output:

isapnp: Card 'Creative ViBRA16X PnP'
isapnp: 2 Plug & Play cards detected total
[...]
sb: Creative ViBRA16X PnP detected
sb: ISAPnP reports 'Creative ViBRA16X PnP' at i/o 0x240, irq 7, dma 1, 3
sb: 1 Soundblaster PnP card(s) found.

When I boot Knoppix 3.7 with kernel 2.6.9 or Knoppix 3.9 (kernel 2.6.11), the card is detected by isapnp, but
the lines beginning with sb: are not present and there is no sound.

sndconfig says:

You don't seem to be running a kernel with modular sound enabled.
(soundcore.o was not found in the module search path).
To use sndconfig, you must be running a kernel with modular
sound, such as the kernel shipped with Debian GNU/Linux or a 2.2
kernel, and sound must be compiled as modules.

(It seems that one of my network cards isn't detected too, I think the ISA PnP one.)
