:?: So far so good... I seem to have overcome many of my problems and I think Knoppix is absolutely stunning. I have learned more here than with any other Linux distro i have experimented with. Still a newbie though...

My problem at the moment is to get my printer to work. I have a Canon 7000 inkjet and I just can't get it to work. I have downloaded the entire FAQ section and have not been able to achieve this.

Can someone offer some advice please?

You'll probably want to look here:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=60672

I'm not sure if "partial" support will mean that you can get it running or not. Look over what they say on the page listed above and see if that gets you anywhere. Maybe try some of the different drivers listed for your printer as well.

I know this doesn't do you any good now, but when looking for new printers that will work on linux I always consult www.linuxprinting.org. I bought a Lexmark all in one printer, copier, scanner without doing this and now i'm getting ready to sell it on Ebay because it won't work at all.

Thank you for your help. The funny part about this is that it worked on Mandrake 9 but on Knoppix I cant even find printer drivers. The Print Manager does not even list any printers to select from.

BTW, you did try the instructions <a href="http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/PrinterHowTo>here</a> first ritght? If you haven't don't be surprized if the first thing you see is a client/server error. This always happens. Click "ok" and go to the next screen.

I'm not with you on this one... Whatever instructions have been available I have tried. I have tried all the printer options and none work. I get the 'document printing' message but nothing happens. Sometimes I get a message that 'cups' may not be installed although how this can be beats me seeing as how the whole box and dice is on a CD

I'm really sorry. I screwed up somehow in the process of cutting, pasting, and submiting the last post. What I meant to say was did you try the instructions herre: http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/PrinterHowTo

You will get a client/server error when you first try this, but go ahead and click ok and try the setup anyway. You may have already done this, but when I looked back on your earlier posts, I was unsure just what you had tried. Hope this helps some.

Thank you for your patience aay, I'll give this a shot and report back. Just in case I can't find it in my various bits of documentation what is the Linux equivalent of LPT1?

-----------------------------------------------

This edit some time later:

It would seem that I am not destined to install my printer. I downloaded the 'Printer How To' you suggested and I run into a problem first up. The readme instructs to 'Add Printer' and select 'Add Printer Class'. Would you beleive that this option is greyed and I can't select it. Seems like I'm snookered!

lp0 is equivalant to LPT1

Knoppix 2003-04-18.en use hpijs 1.3-2 and many HP printer bloc after
each page. My HPOfficeJet725 print a bad page after restart and after 2 restart only on good page are possible.

But form according to http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/
6-February-2003
HP released hpijs version 1.3.1 to correct the printer-hang problem with the OfficeJet 500/600/700 and PSC 300 series products.

From http://hpinkjet.sourceforge.net/ I have donwload and install hpijs 13.1 now my HPOfficeJet725 workwell.

I suggest to update hpijs in KNOPPIX and Debian.

I started the setup again and all options were available. All is now well.

Thanks to all the respondents. :D

If you right right click on the upper half of the print manger, will it give you the option to add a printer? I've found that for some strange reason the option isn't in the normal place but you can get it this way. Another option is to open a web browser and type in "localhost:631" You can then configure CUPS through your browser.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for helping.
But I didjavascript:emoticon('') something really stupid. I forgot to choose CUPS in the first menu of the printer manager. After I did that I got (right clicking) the "Add printer/class"
and it was possible to install my printers as raw printers over a network
thanks
