Usb version of Knoppix

I have been asked to do a finnish version of Knoppix that boots from usb stick, but unfortunately my machine don't boot from usb - s o I can't even test that :(

I'm sure that here are persons who have succeeded in doing a bootable usb Knoppix. Would you like to share your experiences with us?

The best thing using usb would be, I suppose, that you can use 1GB stick and another thing - it boots faster than from CD :)

I have an MS-Windows XP solution .....
Search the web for Hiren's boot cd.
Download their usb-format.exe file
search and download the syslinux pack (http://syslinux.zytor.com/)
using the usb-format.exe format your usb disk.
Using the syslinux (win32 version) syslinux your drive (this utility makes your usb bootable)
Get the DSL (Damn Small Linux) cd image.
burn a cd with the ISO or mount the image and extract it's contents to the root of the USB disk.
move all the contents of /boot/isolinux to the root of the USB.
rename the file isolinux.bin to syslinux.bin and
isolinux.cfg to syslinux.cfg.
delete the boot folder...
re-boot making sure that your bios is set to boot from the usb.

on some systems you have to hold down the ALT or shift key while booting.
Still on other systems, once in the boot prompt, you have to use the expert mode.
just type expert at the prompt.

This worked on a LEXAR Jumpdrive 256 Mgs.

Unless Hiren's BootCD has been changed .... It is a HUGE copyright infringing creation. They have bundled over 20 pay-money proprietary partition/diagnotic tools in one single download.

In the past I have illegally traded software and violated many licenses & copyrights without regard to what I was doing. It was not until my own copyrights were violated (music, not software) that I began to see copyright as something to be respected & obeyed.

DOWLOAD the usb_format.exe utility, not the hiren's cd.!!!!
