The Radeon driver does not support current cards

Knoppix DVD version 4.0.1 still has a very old version of the ATI radeon driver (version 6.5.5) - the current one at ATI is 8.16.20.
The 6.5.5 version does not support any of the X series cards (X800, X850, X700, X600, X300).
Unfortunately this makes Knoppix unusable on my system (with an X800XT and a 1280x1024 LCD screen) :cry:

As bad it may seem, you do have some options:

1) boot Knoppix into text mode and update the driver
2) do option 1 while using a persistent disk image to save the new driver across sessions
3) install Knoppix to a HDD and update the driver
4) remaster with the new drivers

Personally, I like option2. But if you need/want help with the others, let us know.
