Whew boy what a night. All of a sudden all the lights went out. It was just our house. Blown master circuit breaker. The dryer+microwave+AC?? Who knows.

Anyway, I was in Knoppix at the time. Ahh sh****.

I tried to reboot the computer after resetting the circuit breaker. The computer would start to boot and see that the partition was corrupted and Knoppix doing fsck tried to fix it. I went through this several times as something on the HD was not being repaired. It went through a long list of things it was fixing but apparently not everything.

It would leave me in a limited shell and prompt me to press Control-D to reboot.

Finally, I got out the live CD to boot it. It wouldn't. I got out another live CD. It wouldn't boot either.

Finally, I tried rebooting to the HD install again. This time when I got the message to press Control-D to reboot, instead of following the prompt, I did fsck to /dev/hda3. That did the trick.

After that I could boot to the live CD again.
