Firefox 1.0.3 under 3.8.2 randomly exits ?

If I use the Firefox 1.0.3 under Knoppix 3.8.2 the browser(s) randomly vanish, with no error reporting or anything, sometimes when I click a link. Has anyone else seen this and do you know what it is ?
