efficiency of partimage in knoppix

1. when i use knoppix 3.6( kernel 2.4.27 and partimage 0.6.4), partimage's back up speed is 3~10 times faster than knoppix 3.8.2 and knoppix 3.9, i really want to know why...

2. when i try to use partiamge in knoppix 3.8.2 to restore my partition, some error always happen: can't read block 0 in image 0. i check this error in partimage's official website, many guys have this problem, but no answer to fix this bug(is it a bug?)

How are you using partimage? What's your source device? What's your destination device? How are you transferring the data (e.g. network, USB, FW, other)?

I had this same problem and I noticed DMA was not enabled for the HDD. Using 'hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda' did the trick.

I have not had this problem.
