on the same machine with Dell300a and INTEL 82810E video controller

the Knoppix Hacks distro boots up to X just fine, video works everything looks great.

Knoppix 3.9 won't correctly detect and set up the video, X starts but you can't read the screen at all

how can i determine the settings used from Knoppix Hacks distro and then pass those values as cheatcodes

at the boot prompt?

In 3.8 all the settings are stored in /etc/sysconfig/knoppix, so the same may be true for the Hacks distro and 3.9. My guess would be that you want to boot with the xmodule=i810 cheatcode.

BTW, the 4.0 DVD and CD are out. They both have plenty of updates, so you may want to give those a shot, too?

Good luck and let us know how things go.

thanks i'll give it a go. that xmodule=i810 makes good sense. i also like the idea of the DVD maxi edition. i don't have a DVD burner and it's got lots of good extras.

i'll let you know how it goes.

thanks
