Newbie: Intel 845GLLY/845GLAD

I use knoppix 2.2; Celeron 1.7GHz, Intel's 845GL motherboard.

i tried to change screen resolution and refresh rate using the cheat codes, but no use.

i went through some of the Qs in the forum

i tried
fb800x600
screen=800x600
DIDNT work

couldn't find XDisplay or kxconfig


when i typed "kxf86config" in console, it showed the intel graphics card as unknown. Also i don't know how to use "kxf86config"

knoppix 2.2 ? Or you mean 3.2 ?

i845 support is not in xfree86 until I think 4.3(or some really late 4.2.x) VESA mode should work but it is very ugly and I don't think there is frame buffer driver for 845, not even 810(which there is one but not included in KNOPPIX).

so it drops you to the shell prompt ? I don't quite understand what works, what doesn't as it seems that you can get to the shell prompt but X cannot start ?

yes you are right.
the monitor flashes 2/3 times and then drops to shell prompt.

X doesn't start
