Knoppix is really great/awesome. :D

I'm using an Asrock 939 dual-sata2 board with an AMD64 X2 3800+ and Knoppix 4.0.2 booted it as SMP. Two Penguins instead of one. Now all I have to do is find out how to get FedoraC4 to present me with an SMP kernel on my 80GB HD (master on IDE1) and then get Grub to let me boot from Knoppix on my 20GB hard drive (slave on IDE1).

ASROCK dual sata2 board
AMD 64 X2 3800+
Thermalright si-120 Heatsink with 120cm fan.
768MB pc-3200 ram

Not a speed demon, but stable. Knoppix made the installation easier. I was able to check out the system before I let Fedora boot up the new equipment.

Down load the kernel source rpm. read through the README file, run configure, select smp support and compile/install the new kernel. Easy as that.

Suggesting you dload from the Fedora site incase there are specialised kernel patches involved for that distro. If not, just go to www.kernel.org and grab source from there.

After waiting several days before installing a Fedora C4 SMP kernel, yum update gave me one in the normal routine of updating. A few days after that yum update supplied me with another SMP kernel. The amazing thing is that the Knoppix/Debian SMP kernel is stable and the Fedora C4 SMP kernels are both flakey. They are unstable when the Firefox or Opera browser are used and the mouse and keyboard are erratic. :? F@H runs on both of the FC4 SMP kernels, but the clock is highly inaccurate. On Knoppix the clock is right on the money. :D

FC is a community aka testing release ... at least deb keeps their unstable branch labled as "unstable" ....

I don't quite understand that ?, the "F@H" bit that is ... any Linux should run on any kernel, all things being equal that is ... ie; special patch requirements etc ... i have noticed a few issues on FC4 though. I think they originally forgot to include all the required libs when it first came out ...(very_big_grin.png)

Sounds like a good result in the end though :)
