Hello

I would like to install knoppix to an usb harddrive attached to my laptop. The OS on the internal hdd of the laptop is Win2K and must not be changed in any way. It´s from my company
Is it possible to install knoppix on an usb harddrive and still boot from the knoppix cd and then use the cheatcode to access the installed knoppix? Because I can´t install a bootloader on the laptop.

Many thanks

Looks like you didn't search for very long... Please have a look in here:

This thread also describes how to run knoppix from the hdd without creating a new partition for knoppix and without touching the mbr or the boot sector of your disk/partition. This is a very clean way and much faster way to run Knoppix than from the cd/dvd/usb. Please give me some feedback and let me if it works for you.
Best Regards, Gilles

Thank you for your help, i did search but I am absolutely new to linux and knoppix and so I did not find that much info, that could help me. If i see it right, the link you gave me describes the way where you boot from a usb stick, right? The thing is, my Lifebook does not support booting from usb in any way, only booting from internal hdd or floppy or cd.

Thank you very much again

In that case you can use grldr and boot.ini to start grub from the Win2K bootloader (ntldr) and then using initrd_ntfs.gz and the linux kernel boot koppix from the iso on your ntfs partition or from your usb dongle.
See: http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Win_Partition
Good Luck and please let me know how this works for you, Gilles
PS: Since you are using win2k you may need to use this version of grldr: http://s94002264.onlinehome.us/grub/grldr
