I just did a HD install of Knoppix 4.0.2 to an old laptop. It seems to work fine, except that my NIC is not working quite right. It is a 3Com Megahertz 3CCFEM556 PCMCIA, and it does appear to be recognized properly when I type "cardctl ident". I checked the /etc/pcmcia/config file and it lists 2 drivers bind: 3c574_cs to 0, serial_cs to 1. The light on the card is lit, but it doesn't list under ifconfig. It also doesn't work if I manually assign it an IP; and "pump" fails to grab a DHCP address. I tried this all with with the live CD bootup also, with the same results. This same setup did work with Knoppix 3.7 (and just to verify, I booted with the 3.7 CD again and the NIC worked).

I checked the /var/log/messages file and it lists a few errors at bootup:

3Com 3c574 at io 0x300, irq 3, hw_addr 00:....
eth0: found link beat
eth0: autonegotiation complete: 100baseT-FD selected
.
.
eth0: interrupt(s) dropped!

eth0: command 0x5800 did not complete
eth0: command 0x2800 did not complete
eth0: command 0x5800 did not complete
last message repeated 127 times

What should I try next to get this to work? Since it worked with Knoppix 3.7, something must have changed in either the driver or the config for the card services, or...
