apt-get removing programs

Hey,

I decided i wanted to get qt-designer for my knoppix install, so i ran the comamnd:
apt-get install qt3-designer

Then i get this: (sorry if its big)

So now i am stuck with loads of removed programs and no qt-designer...

I have the exact same problem. I have yet to find a solution, though. Does this happen to all packages you try to install or just qt3-designer?

Well, we put it a bit differently. We point out that there are great Linux distros for doing exactly what you want; one of them being Debian. If you instead insist on using tools not intended for the job that you want to do, you have to be extremely good at using them.

That's true, but personally I still prefer a knoppix hdinstall instead of debian, even in sort of mission critical work environment. I have only two suggestion for those that want to install knoppix:
1. don't upgrade it! install/replace apps once at time with tarballs or klik.
2. take some time to learn basic linux admin tasks, such as mountig devices.

Other suggestion are welcome and I hope that in the future knoppix will improre the hdinstall. because others distros I've tryed out there don't like me as knoppix :D

Upgrade your KDE to 3.4.2 first. You have to use the unstable repositories because testing gives dependency errors.

apt-get -t unstable install kde
I just did that this morning and now I had no problem installing qt3-designer

Try removing kdebluetooth first to eliminate that error. Here is is a how to from knoppix.net user tapsa:

basically you want to run these steps:

#rm /usr/bin/kdesktop_lock

# dpkg-divert --rename --remove /usr/bin/kdesktop_lock

you will see the following error:

Removing kdebluetooth ...
No diversion `diversion of /usr/bin/kdesktop_lock to /usr/bin/kdesktop_lock_nobt by kdebluetooth', none removed

but an apt-get remove kdebluetooth will tell you that it is no longer installed.
