I'm having problems with my knoppix. When i boot from the cd it does not work. the booting stop at the loading screen. and display two lines say

somecrap about kernel panic: vfs:unmable to mount fs. something to that nature.

it works perfectly an my friends machine and mine is much better than his.

please tell me how to fix it.

I always did get a chuckle out of those crazy error messages the hacks like to use but I've never seen that exact error message before. ;)

Sounds like a cdrom read error perhaps. Boot like so:
knoppix testcd

it works perfectly an my friends machine
Not an accurate assumption I'm afraid.

and mine is much better than his.
Linux might not think so as Linux usually runs better on older hardware.

please tell me how to fix it.
How do you normally boot?

you can sometimes get around the panic error message by specifying memory size. when you load knoppix, press F2, then type knoppix mem=128M (if you have 128MB of ram) the M must be capitalized.

hope this helps.
