ATI releases drivers for linux, but they are rpm releases only

i found this site which has deb packages for debian type distros

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.stanchina/debian/fglrx-installer.html#overview1

installed the driver package, and source package, its just the kernel module that is tricky, it gives instructions on how to compile it, but it is complicated

http://xoomer.virgilio.it/flavio.stanchina/debian-fglrx-modules/index.html has precompiled kernel modules, but which version shall I use? im using knoppix 4.02
