View Full Version : Install LINUX without CDROM and floppy disk (by HDD or net)

Hello, my computer haven't got CDROM and floppy disk and i want install LINUX by HDD or net (PXE). My pc have Ethernet card.

How can i install it?

One method would be to copy the compressed image over to your hard drive and boot it with these instructions (http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/HdBasedHowTo)

This way you get auto detect and you can install it if you like. Also you could put the hdd in another machine, copy the compressed image to that hdd and then reinstall to your cdromless machine.

I don't think so, unless you have another PC you would want to use solely for Knoppix that can host the image for the diskless one. I think you will need the "poorman's install". You need a program to extract the files inside the CD-ROM image. Then you will need to make a "loadlin" installation to boot Knoppix from inside Windows.

I would suggest you thinker around with Knoppix for some time (weeks) before doing a HD install.

Search the forum and feel free to ask any ;-) questions you might have.

Click the download link at the top of the page. It's 700 megabyte(!)

Their name contains the date it was created, normaly you would download the newest one.
