library files conflicts

Hi
I ve installed knoppix 4 on my hdd and found its kool.But when i tried to install some lib files(.deb format) thru Kpacakge Mngr its telling that it cant overwrite some files in /usr/ blah blah.. .I think some files in the package that i try to install is already present in the Box ,in that case wat should i do?? shall i uninstall that installed package??
(I dont have yet managed to set up a Net connection to my Box)

You are right. You can usually overwrite those files with the same name without doing any harm to your system.

The easiest way to do that is to add to the end of the /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg file line

force-overwrite


I have never had any difficulties because of that. In spite of that line configurating files are NOT overwrited automatically - so it's secure.

I think that 'force-overwrite' was the default in older Debian versions but it was removed for debugging reasons.
