View Full Version : How to start Knoppix as Root

Hi folks,

Knoppix 4.0

Please advise how to start Knoppix as Root instead of User. Because;

1)
avoidng "su" to mount HD

2)
Applications can't read files in mounted partitions, unless they were started as Root (i.e. after su).

Running
# mount /dev/xyz /mnt/xyz
# mount -o remount,rw /mnt/xyz

Did not solve the problem.

add usersa and gid to the mount comand

sudo mount -o users,gid=users,rw /mnt/xyz
that should give users acess

You start Knoppix as root upon booting with cheatcode "Knoppix 2", my favorite. For a more complete list of cheatcodes, press F2 or F3 when booting and also browse this page:
