I have to lend 15 new pc's to another department for classroom use out of town in 2 weeks. I'd like to physically disable the hard drives and let them run from knoppix cd's(only web access is needed). The pc's are brand new dell optiplex gx280s using USB mice and keyboards. The mouse seems to work ok but not the keyboard. My problem is that these pc's do not have ps/2 ports. Is there a work around or trick for getting a usb keyboard to work or did I just get impatient and not wait long enough for it to be recognized properly?

Thanks in advance for any tips/tricks!

My suggest is to type as root: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
You 'll be propetd on a set of questions nearly all to let as default and some to ask. You will be asked either about your keyboard and mouse (what kind they are) and maybe you can set them correctly.
This is pure theory on my point of view, not tested it on my own :?

Thanks for the information.
After my post, I realized that I was using an older version of knoppix. I downloaded version 4.0 and it worked fine with a dell precision workstation using a usb mouse and keyboard.

Thanks again,
