I installed Knoppix 4.02 on and very old Gateway Solo 2500 Laptop. It has a 6 gb hdd, and 64mb of ram, but knoppix ran just fine. During the installation it took about 2 hours to get fo 0% to 77% and 15 hours to get from 77% to 100%. Now after GRUB loads I get this message

"Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root sf on unknown-block(3,1)"

Any help would be great. Thank you.

check your HD or ram something could be intermittent there which make it hard to trace Its not the RAM or the HD. Its the knoppix installed to a HD process which seems to have a 60 percent success rate. Search the forums & see other people who have installed it and gotten the same error message. As for fixing it, I do not know and I have given up helping people fix a known broken process (http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/HD_Install_Warning_not_to_do_it).
