View Full Version : ATI fglrx driver working, no 3D, how to get rid of Mesa?

I'm having problems getting 3d working with my Radeon card. I've got Kanotix installed and am posting here as I prefer this forum and it is more user friendly for English speakers than the Kanotix forum.

I ussed the Kanotix script (install-radeon-debian.sh) to install the FGLRX driver and config the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file which aparently replaces the old XF86Config-4 file.

It set it up fine but when I do fglrxinfo:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1)

lsmod shows:

Below is my xorg.conf file and it shows has Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no", so I'm stumped, except that I may have to recompile the kernel but that doesn't make any sense as it is a default Kanotix kernel and it should already be configured to jive with the "install-radeon-debian.sh" script? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

As it turns out the fix was incredibly simple, I just did the following:

1) Drove to store, bought nVidia GeForce FX 5500 card

2) Installed video card

3) Ran the Kanotix nVidia script "install-nvidia-debian.sh"

Booted into 3D graphics environment!! LOL
