The modem box says:
Minimum System Requirements - Linux 2.4 Kernel or higher.
So that and its a hardware modem(DSP) i know it will work in linux.

I'm using Knoppix v3.2

When I "dpkg -i ltmodem-2.4.20_8.26a9_i386.deb"
It says "Can't access dpkg status area: read only file system."

i got the .deb file from http://www.sfu.ca/~cth/ltmodem/dists/debian/8.00a3/

is there a way around this? or do i have to install knoppix on a hdd to use these drivers?

if not please let me know that too i have ask around a few forums but i have not got a anything yet.

thanks.

Smart move getting a Linux compatible modem but yes you must install to hard drive if you want to install drivers. I assume that the drivers that come w/ Knoppix will not work for your modem. The read-only error is because you cannot write to a booted cd.

edit
It may be possible to load the drivers from a floppy or hard drive during boot.
