I have done everything using the steps outlined by Jorge Garcia http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2021,.This is in reference to booting without floppy and boot cd.

What I would like to have is to display the boot prompt (using the batch file with the loadlin.exe...)instead of knoppix going thru the whole process of booting automatically.

Any ideas?

It appears to be a limitation of loadlin. However, you can pass on cheat codes either from the loadlin line in the autoexec.bat files or through the use of a loadlin.par file as described by
baldyeti in this thread:
http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2273

To simplify the process, I put a copy of Edit.com in the root of the drive so all I have to do to change the parameters is to press F5 when DOS starts up to bypass the autoexec.bat and then enter at the C:\ prompt

Edit autoexec.bat
or
Edit loadlin.par

A three finger salute and you are back in business.
