I am planning to deploy knoppix on the home PCs for the kids, who of course all chat on AIM with their friends. Is there AIM avaialble somewhere that I can download, so I can go knoppix all the way ?

There is a Gnome (or GNU?) AIM program, called surprise surprise "Gaim" :-)

It's in the internet submenu of the KDE start-button. It can also do ICQ, MSN, Yahoo and a couple of others.
