Recently i had the hard drive (NTFS) in my main machine fail and i tried using knoppix to recover some data from it. Knoppix saw the disk and could also see the data but when i tried to copy it to my second (FAT) hard drive it said i couldnt. I then tried to copy to my USB memory stick (FAT) and was once again told no. Annoyed by this i tried to burn the data to a CD but K3B kept telling me there was a buffer overun error, try running at a slower burn speed. After i got down to 1x i just gave up, also the hard drive had become unreadable again.

Anyone got any suggestions?

If it is possible to mount FAT partitions for writing the knowledge how would be very handy right now.

Once you have mounted the drive by clicking on the desktop icon, right click the icon again and choose: Actions -> Change Read/Write Mode .

Thankyou, sadly it seems to be too late for the hard drive.
