Perhaps a mention of that _official page_ would be helpful, as no one here will have heard of a program called "API-GET".

The utility you reference is most likely apt-get .

I suggest that you take a moment and begin to familiarize yourself with your new operating system and the hundreds of new tools that you now have at your disposal. Then you may ask for and receive answers to your preveiously researched and thoughtful questions.

The "Documentation" link at the top of this page for starters. Also www.tldp.org and debian.org .

You have a Live CD or DVD. You are simply not going to install more software to the Live CD without going through an involved process called remastering, and I can assure you that you are not ready for that.

Knoppix is what it is. It is a great way to try Linux from CD without having to install anything. It's a handy way to run Linux on a new system, to have a copy of Linux that you can carry to different machines and run as needed. But is was never intended to be used as your only Linux system and it was not intended for installing more software by the novice end user.
