Well, I am using kanotix 2005-04 and am running into trouble with installing gaim. gaim comes preincluded on knoppix v3.8 which is what I use for my live-cd needs, so I was wondering if any of the users here who have installed kanotix on their hard drives have managed to get gaim installed on their machines, and if so, how did you do it? I have been combing the net trying to find the correct .deb and .rpm files. I have tried apt-get, but have not been able to get it to install gaim or any other packages, I tried rpm install and dpkg and none seem to be able to install gaim for me any info on how to install gaim correctly, what is the correct package and depending packages to download for gaim on kanotix or debian in general?

ok, I figured out the apt-get installation by rereading some of the apt-get sticky, and it clicking in my head(so should I avoid third party .deb packages?), so any way I type

apt-get install gaim and I get a broken dependency error:

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gaim: Depends: gaim-data (= 1:1.5.0+1.5.1cvs20051015-2) but 1:1.5.0+2.0.0beta2-1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

so does anyone know how I can change the file so the gaim dependency matches? and sorry about cluttering the forums with this here I just am really fond of gaim, and would hate to lose it :)
