Hello folks,

I seem to have some problems configuring my printers - any idea where the problem might be?

My Symtem: 800 - 1000MHz; same results on different PCs; all running fine with the new Knoppix 5.0
MY printers:
1. Kyocera FS1000 (par)
2. HP Deskjet 970C (USB or par)
3. Epson Stylus 480SXU (USB)

To the first: This one runs fine, when set up with the KDE printer wizzard. Test-page, and printing in any application - no problem.
(The only problem here is that the developer in this printer starts giving up...)

The second: Setup works fine in KDE printer - wizzard. But nothing comes out of the printer itself. No matter wether connected by USB or par. (It's allways correcly displayed when staring the wizzard). No error message comes up. The driver selected in the wizzard does not have any influence. When opening the printer in http://localhost:631 and modifying the driver to "CUPs Deskjet-Series" this printer comes to live!! So far so good, but:

The driver and hardwarelist in http://localhost:631 is much smaller than in the KDE-Wizzard...

The third: Same problem like with my second one, the HP. But I can't solve the problem in http://localhost:631, sonce Canon isn't available in there. During the KDE-setup I get an error in this process, that the creation of the foomatic driver failed due to missing files. I didn't get any page out of this printer with Knoppix, yet.

Since all of this three have got some hardware - bugs I want to by a new printer for my Knoppix-Box. With the experiences I've made, it can't be the solution having a look at the printers in the KDE-Wizzard. The lists at "http://www.linuxprinting.org/" can't be the solution, too (My HP is listed there, but works only with "cheating").

What do I have to do differently to get a printer working properly with CUPs and Knoppix?
Which printers definitly work with Knoppix 5.0? (And stil can be bougt new; not the really big ones. There won't be more than 100 pages per month!)

Anyone out there having similar problems?

Thanx for all helpful hints in advance!
