I've been using knoppix for a while now, and I was excited about the release of 4.0.2, but a lot of the things I do require that I can access my USB hard drives. Ever since I downloaded 4.0.2, I've never been able to access my drives through the new knoppix. So is there a way to regain access to USB drives, or will I have to wait for a new release?

**NOTE: I was able to fix my other problem (I'm not very patient) so I edited my post to focus on my USB problem.

Hi,
Do you mean that you were able to access your USB drive in previous Knoppix versions?

sorry for the long wait :(

Yes, in 3.6, 3.8, and 3.9, I'm able to access and partition (with qtParted) my usb disks easily as they are shown on the desktop.

I've always liked how easy it was to manage your drive in Knoppix...

Hi,
I have a similar problem with my USB HDD and USB stick when running Knoppix 4.0.2 but not when running DSL 2.3. DSL 2.3 is based on knoppix but using Kernel 2.4, and it works fine with the same USB HDD and USB stick.

If I plug/unplug of USB stick in knoppix 4.0.2 and then do dmesg, I don't see any USB events. Doing the same in DSL 2.3 resulted in USB related messages. I'm wondering if the problem lies with the hotplug or the kernel in 4.0.2.

*sigh*
I guess we'll have to wait for a new release if we don't really want to remaster the CD. Oh well. I've recently installed another distro anyway. That's more for a portable linux system for me now.
