acpi=off kills mouse

Has this come up before?

Using 5.0 with knoppix-like hdinstall with hardware detection. USB mouse.

Booting with acpi causes kacpid to use 100Mhz of cpu cycles.

Using 5.0 with knoppix-like hdinstall.
Does this only happen with a "hard disk install"? If so it is only just another problem with hard disk installs, and why was it not posted in the HDD install forum? If not and it happens when running from DVD as well then why cloud the issue by the HDD install reference?
