It's the live multiplayer portion of the game that sets Alien Arena 2006 apart. While the game's graphics are mostly based on the Quake 2 engine, it does use the Quake 3 Arena console code for any changes you might make...There's something to be said for creating a totally free game that, while without the graphical upgrades of a Doom 3 engine, still manages to be tons of fun to play around.

You know, the Games Knoppix has not been updated since Knoppix 4.0.2 came out. My guess is that the author will get interested in doing a new version. The reason that I mention this is because Games Knoppix has in the past included the ATI and Nvidia 3d drivers, something that Klaus has not included in Knoppix for licensing reasons. So perhaps it would be wise to see if you can get the Games Knoppix disk to include this or some other network capable 3D first person shooter in a future release. By the way I have tried Games Knoppix on both an ATI video based system and an Nvidia video based system and both 3D drivers worked great for me.

The CD is old and somewhat lame. The DVD is pretty nice and includes the 3d drivers (of course I don't know if they work on cards newer than the DVD itself). But wile the game selection is nice it isn't fantastic and it could really benefit from a nice free first person network capable 3d shooter. And if they threw in a Linux teamspeak client, all the better. There was plenty of space left on the last one (although 3d shooters can eat space fast).
