I downloaded the Knoppix 5.0.1 CD English version and discovered that during the boot process my sound system is not activated. I can get it to work by manually going through the "alsaconf" process.
Here is an excerpt of the lspci comand after booting is complete:
0000:00:1b.0 0403: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation: Unknown device 0202
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 22
Memory at 501c0000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [60] Message Signalled Interrupts: 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable-
Capabilities: [70] #10 [0091]

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Okay, I have to admit, it's the old problem again, the specific output connector I was using had to be unmuted. Sound is properly recognized, however, I was using the front connector of the motherboard and not the rear connector. The front speakers are muted in kmix by default.

I needed to unmute the front speakers in kmix and sound was working.

My question now is how to have Knoppix automatically turn on the front speakers when booting.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
