Open the Control Center>Desktop>Behavior> check the "Enable desktop menu" button>Apply.
You should now have another taskbar on the top of your screen.
New>CD/DVD-ROM Device
On the "properties" page don't forget to select the correct "Device" So in this example choose from the pull down menu >/dev/cdrom
The pull down menu is only going to offer you devices from your /etc/fstab file of course.
You can also create icons for Applications, Directories, Links, etc.
