Recover formatted data on HD ?

Hello,

I'd like to know if it's possible to recover some data under this conditions
1) First, I installed Win XP and had some pictures there
2) I formatted the hard disk
2) Then I installed Ubuntu

So now, i want to recover the pictures I had in the Win XP installation. Is it possible?. Can i do it with Knoppix?

if you formatted the entire disk ... then installed ubuntu ontop of it. the only way you will be able to recover your data would be with professional data recovery at extreme cost. then, you may still not be able to recover your data.

i think you may have been able to recover from a format with knoppix (though i'm not sure how), but once you've written on top of your format (especially since it's in a completely new file system) you're chances of data recovery are pretty slim.
