After some googling I found this site:
http://sweb.cz/tripie/utils/wmctrl/
I installed version 1.07 from debian-packet (http://packages.debian.org/stable/x11/wmctrl) to Knoppix 4.0.2 CD

I tried it a bit:

knoppix@1[tmp]$ wmctrl -l
0x01200008 -1 Knoppix KDE Desktop
0x01400008 -1 Knoppix kicker
0x02000005 1 Knoppix pugs - Konqueror
0x02600005 1 Knoppix Shell - Konsole
0x01e00029 3 Knoppix Post a reply - Mozilla Firefox
0x0200c7d4 3 Knoppix wmctrl - Konqueror
0x01c00005 3 Knoppix Shell - Konsole
knoppix@1[tmp]$ wmctrl -i -r 0x01c00005 -e 0,-1,-1,700,300

First command lists all windows and second resizes window which has ID "0x01c00005" to 700x300 pixels.
And it did work for me.

yes i googled it and found the same link. but when i turned onmy linux comp again, even the desktop was resized to about an inch long by half an inch high so all i could do was right click and click on the little bit of the home icon that was showing...do you think that program coudl also resize the desktop?
