I have laptop Inspiron 6000. The live CD wont fit the spindle of cd ROM. But it will fit dell 4100 desktop. I tried live dvd with hope since the laptop has DVD ROM bay. It wont fit either..the hole is too small for the laptop. Is there a way to do it?

At first it sounded like you had a media problem and I was going to suggest that you try different media. I'm still not sure that that is not the issue, but your problem with a DVD also makes me suspect the optical drive itself. Are the two discs that you tried ones you made yourself, or ones that you got from someone else? Does this drive have problems with other media? Can you burn the CD to a different brand of media, or if you don't have the ISO file, copy the current CD to different media on the system where it does seem to work in the drive? Are the Knoppix CD and DVD really the only discs that this system has problems with, and what media is this?

System Information about laptop from System Tools says
media Type: CD-ROM
Name: HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244
Media Loaded: No

I believe it is Combo CD/DVD drive.

Neveertheless, on the cover of disk drive says it is compact disk rewriteable DVD Rom.

I just tried knoppix disk again with extra push and it finally put in place.
For heaven's sake, there is nothing wrong with it! It just needed extra push.
Now Knoppix Logo is on screen!

It sounds like I dont have media problem.. I appreciate your reply..

It is time to learn how to use Knoppix. Hope I will learn to write a simple c program.
Can I post programming question at this forum?

Much better choices would be the General Support forum or the New to Linux forums.
