Dear friends, this is just to share with you the good news that the Linksys WUSB11 wireless USB adapter can work on Knoppix 5.0.1 (after some effort) with full 128bit WEP encryption.

The Linksys WUSB11 ver 2.6 adapter is an old 802.11b device which uses the atmel at76c503a chipset. It does not work with Knoppix 5.0.1 by default. lsusb will detect the device, but no modules are loaded.

Like my earlier experiment with the D-link G122, getting the Linksys to work was a matter of searching the internet for a good Linux driver, compiling it and installing it as a module.

This time, there is a good driver source at http://at76c503a.berlios.de/. The driver source needs to be downloaded, compiled and installed. Again, unfortunately, the kernel-source will be needed to compile. Easy instructions on compiling, installing and use are described in the readme of the downloaded source. The installed module is loaded with modprobe and the device is brought up with " ifconfig wlan0 up". Then the device is set up with the Wlan configuration option in the Knoppix menu.
