just wondering how you can force (at boot?) a specific resolution and refresh rate when running X. whenever i load the cd, it defaults to 800x600 @ 60Hz, even though the monitor supports 1024x768@70Hz. How do I force it to go to start at 1024x768@70Hz? I have already tried noddc, screen=1024x768, and xvrefresh=70 all on the same line or individually at the boot prompt.
any suggestions would be much appreciated!

diamond stealth 64 video vram 2mb
also tried on friend's radeon 8500 and had same problems
BUT when i changed the monitor (im currently using very old monitor, but does support 1024x768 @ 70Hz) to a new one, it had no problems with supporting and using the specified monitor resolution and refresh at boot
something is very fishy here, i suspect X is trying to detect the monitor, and if it gets no feedback from it, it doesn't let you use more than 800x600@60Hz irrespective of whether your monitor supports anything higher (in-built safety mechanism?)...
hope this extra info helps!!!
