I'm trying to get basically everything out of the My Documents folder (from Windows XP) and putting them into an external usb hd. The computer won't load Windows under any circumstances and I'm using knoppix to extract the files to reformat the drive later. But knoppix won't copy a lot of the files saying that "there's no space available" when in fact Windows tells me that there are over 244 GB free on the external HD. Not sure why this is happening.

Any ideas?

knoppix won't copy a lot of the files? Do you mean to say it copies some files? 244 gig free is a lot, what type of partition is on that external drive? You know the warnings about Knoppix and NTFS, don't you? (There are rumors that 5.0.1 canwrite to NYFS safely, but many of us are not convinced of that yet).
